What is the purpose of philanthropy? As families, why are we pursuing philanthropy? To creating family legacies? To make sustainable changes in society? To address our own personal needs?
What are the hallmarks of a successful energy start-up?

Do energy start-ups require different skill sets than other tech start-ups? How experienced in regulatory matters should management be--or is a cadre of board and advisors adequate to start?
Is it time to invest in energy companies? Would be great to discuss in a break-out session

Yes, we'd be particularly interested in how ROIs vary from traditional energy investments to those of the new clean technologies.

To that end, would it make sense to invest in companies with diversified operations--from traditional to clean tech. For example, Exxon has been investing heavily lately in energy-efficient technologies.
What areas of PE deals in emerging markets would be of interest to you?
Beth Rahn

Emerging markets have generated much interest among investors and academics. Their returns are increasingly converging to those of the developed world due to integration and price liberalization, and they continue to provide benefits to a global portfolio.

This is indeed a great topic. Maybe you can also address the risk/return profile in those markets, especially in light of cultural differences.

Let's also define what we mean by "emerging markets"--it can cover so many areas: geography; new technologies or new industries; new company legal formations, etc.
